What is Smarty?
Smarty is a template engine for PHP. One of the unique aspects about Smarty that sets it apart from other templating solutions is that it compiles the templates into native php scripts upon the first execution. After that, it just executes the compiled PHP scripts. Therefore, there is no costly template file parsing for each request.
Smarty uses the PEAR libraries for some of its error handling routines. PEAR libraries come with the distribution of PHP. Be sure that the path to these libraries is included in your php include_path. Unix users check /usr/local/lib/php-pear.
So, are they installed? Location?
Yes, they are installed and ready for your use.
/usr/local/lib/php-pear would be the correct path.
