Microsoft Frontpage Extensions?
Posted on 27 January 2004 08:26 AM
Question:

Do the FutureQuest servers support Microsoft FrontPage extensions? I will be designing my site with this software and want to make sure I don't run into any problems. If you don't support them, why not...

Answer:

FutureQuest, as a Unix/Linux host, does not support Frontpage extensions. Although ports were developed and available for Unix systems at one time, FutureQuest chose not to install them as they did not meet the security standards generally adhered to with Unix software. The Unix / Linux FrontPage server extensions have now been discontinued and are no longer being supported by Microsoft.

According to Microsoft, FrontPage itself is to be discontinued in late 2006.

That being said, you may certainly use FrontPage to develop and publish your website as many of the FutureQuest Site Owners have done. Although features that require the specific extensions, such as Frontpage mail forms, will not work, they can be replaced by scripts, many of which are already pre-installed on the servers.
