Posted on 24 January 2004 07:47 PM
Question:

When trying to use CUTEFTP to upload files to my account I am connecting but no files are shown.

My settings are as follows:
initial remote /big/dom/xyourdomainname/www/
host address ftp.mydomainname.tld

Please help.

Answer:

The behavior you explain has been noted on the CuteFTP support site. The following steps are provided as possible solutions. Please try them and see if this doesn't solve the problem.

If you cannot see your directory listing or your connection log shows a LIST-L command instead of the normal LIST:

1) On the CuteFTP Menu Bar, click on 'Edit/Settings/Directory Navigation'.
Change the 'Symbolic Links' setting to 'Do no resolve links'.
Try to connect.

2) If the above had no effect, try:

Click on 'Edit/Settings'.
Click on the (+) just to the left of "Connection" so that it becomes a (-) (if it already isn't expanded).
Click on the 'Firewall' tab.
Put a checkmark in the 'PASV mode' box.
Put a checkmark in the 'Enable firewall access' box.
Try to connect.
If it doesn't work, follow the same steps, but take the checkmarks out of the above boxes.

3) Another thing to try is:

Open Site Manager.
Highlight the Site you are having a problem with.
Click on the 'Edit site' button.
Make sure 'Enable Filter' is unchecked.
Try to connect.

4) If that doesn't work, try this:

Open Site Manager.
Highlight the Site you are having a problem with.
Click on the 'Edit site' button.
Change the 'Host Type' from 'Auto-Detect' to the first specific server.
Try to connect.
If that didn't work, try the next host type on the list.
Make sure you have tried all the host types before you move on to the next step.

5) This last step is final attempt for a directory listing. Only try this if nothing else has worked. Your folders will look like files. Therefore, you will have to manually change directories (Commands/Change Dir).

Open Site Manager.
Highlight the Site you are having a problem with.
Click on the 'Edit site' button.
Click on the 'Site Settings Page 2' tab.
Check 'Use Simple Directory Listing'.
Try to connect.
