How to change name servers through the FutureQuest-Dotster registration pages?
Posted on 13 January 2004 09:21 AM
I registered my domain name using the co-branded Dotster domain registration pages available through the FutureQuest web site.
Where do I go to change the name servers for my domain? How do I do it?
The domain registration pages linked from the FutureQuest web site are actually Dotster registration pages and if you have registered a domain using that area the domain is registered through Dotster, an ICANN-accredited registrar.
To make changes to your name servers, and other aspects of your domain registration, you would start by visiting this URL:
You will be prompted to enter your account name and password. These will probably not be the same as your FutureQuest account username and password as you had to create an account in the domain registration area just for the purpose of registering a domain with Dotster.
(If you have forgotten your username, you may send an email to Service@FutureQuest.net and request that we attempt to locate it for you. However, if you have lost your password, you will need to use the "Forgot Your Password?" link on that same page.)
Once you have logged in, you will see a listing of the domain(s) that have been registered through this account. Click on the domain you wish to change the name servers for.
On the next page, click on "Update Name Servers". On the resulting page, you will be presented with the name servers currently associated with that domain.
Enter your new name server information, such as NS1.FutureQuest.net (not IP address). If you are transferring to FutureQuest, the entries required would be:
Press "Add" after each entry. (You must enter a minimum of two (2) name servers.) Then enter your confirmation email address and click "Continue".
The next page will ask you to wait while the name servers are updated. When done, you should be presented with a success page. Always click "Back to Domain Information" and verify that only the name servers you wish to appear are listed.
Note: Whenever you change a domain's DNS entries there is a period of propagation that will normally last from 24 to 72 hours before the domain name will work properly. This cannot be sped up as it is not in the control of any single entity.
More about propagation can be read here:
What is propagation?
On each page of the domain registration area is also a link to "Dotster Help/Support". If you experience any problems with the process, you will need to contact Dotster Support for direct assistance as this area is under Dotster's full control:
